Horticulture & Sustainable food systems

OUR HORTICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEM EDUCATION PROGRAMMES ARE DESIGNED TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE UNDERSTAND OUR FOOD SYSTEMS AND HOW TO MAKE SUSTAINABLE CHOICES. THEY PROVIDE AN INSIGHT INTO THE SKILLS REQUIRED TO WORK IN THE HORTICULTURE AND FOOD PRODUCTION INDUSTRIES AND IGNITE A PASSION FOR HEALTHY FOOD LIFESTYLES.

About

Our Horticulture & Sustainable Food Systems takes a deep dive into the complex relationships between people and planet with the food on our plate as the end result. From seasonal eating to true cost accounting of our food, the education programmes investigate all areas of our food systems and how we can be conscious consumers.

From a range of day visits and long term programmes for both primary and secondary age learners our programmes offer the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of all that is required to achieve sustainable food systems.

All programmes take place in our 1.1 acre Organic Education Garden, allowing pupils to base their learning about food production in hands-on tasks which develop their own horticulture skills and allow for take home knowledge on growing. Each workshop is designed to work with a specific seasonal cycle in mind so whether they sow, plant, harvest or cook, the theoretical learning is rooted in practice.
