Sustainable Artist

Paradise has enchanted minds throughout history. Whether it be depictions of bountiful gardens or intricate mandalas and geometric masterpieces, artists have long embraced this utopian and heavenly concept. Perhaps surprisingly, however, the reality is far from idyllic. With the Industrial Revolution, toxic synthetic pigments and unsustainable practices permeated palettes, rendering artistic portrayals of Paradise a threat to our environment and well-being. As a result, the execution of such works dissonates with the very essence they seek to capture.

In my quest to reconcile this paradox, I embarked on a doctoral research journey at the School of Traditional Arts. Leveraging my background in the Natural Sciences, I explore the fusion of scientific research and artistic application, particularly focusing on pre-modern European and Islamic methods and materials. By delving into the wisdom of earlier masters, I aim to inspire contemporary artists towards a path that benefits both them and our planet.
