ABOUT THE ARTIST

In order to enrich his professional calligraphy skills, Mohamed joined the traditional arts and crafts programme to learn the principles of design as well as the language of geometric and floral patterns. For his final project Mohamed crafted a wooden panel carved with Diwani script. Once prevalent in Egypt, the Diwani script has fallen out of favour in the last century or so. Mohamed hopes to reintroduce this beautiful style of calligraphy to contemporary decorative artworks.
