Focusing on craft, education and heritage skills

There is nothing more inspiring than the people who surround us. So we’ve dedicated issue 02 of The Prince’s Foundation magazine to some of the individuals behind our latest projects, and the lives we aim to change through our work.

Topics range from the importance of the Highland Games to the revival of the church crypt in Gloucester and how the Foundation is finding ways to tackle global rapid urbanisation.

We also discover the work of Kilmarnock-based furniture designer and maker Kelvin Murray and his 28-strong team of bench hand joiners and cabinet makers at his company, Character Joinery. We head to Glasgow to talk to the students enrolled in the Foundation’s new hospitality programme in partnership with The Prince’s Trust.

We chair a debate on the exciting renaissance of heritage crafts and how to best educate the next generation of makers. We travel to Jeddah to examine the intricate work Art Jameel, in partnership with the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, is undertaking to restore Al-Balad’s architectural splendour.

And we spend a day with shepherdess Charlotte Darwent, before taking a light-hearted look at 18th Century portraiture codes adorning the walls at Dumfries House. Our goal is to educate and inspire: we hope you’ll find both within our pages.
