MPhil in Traditional Arts

To be awarded our MPhil degree, students are expected to present substantial creative work – e.g. as an exhibition of art or design work (perhaps including media output) supported by appropriate documentation.

In addition, submissions must include a written component of between 10,000 (minimum) and 25,000 (maximum) words. The written submission should articulate the relevant context(s) of the research – artistic, design, critical, theoretical, historical.

The research submission must demonstrate

• understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current problems and new developments at the forefront of the field of the traditional arts

• comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to the research

• original application of knowledge, with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in the field.
