The Craft of Persian Miniature Painting

In this one-day course, international master Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh will introduce participants to the traditional craft of Persian miniature painting.
The course will take place at the beautiful Art Workers’ Guild, which rarely opens its doors to the public. In this historic setting, participants will have the opportunity to experience some of the teaching methodologies of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts and gain a practical understanding of the craft of Persian miniature painting. By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of how miniature paintings are composed and crafted with traditional methods and materials where possible.
Students will begin by learning to prepare paper by staining and sizing with traditional dyes and methods. The tutor will also demonstrate methods for making watercolour and gouache paints using natural pigments. Finally, students will learn techniques such as colour application, outlining, shading and applying detail.
