PSTA leads design workshop in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

At the end of April, the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts led a five-day design workshop in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, aimed at contributing to the knowledge of the language of Islamic art and architecture among Saudi Arabia’s future architects, designers, and artists.

Working in collaboration with the Al Muallem Mohammed Bin Laden Center for Knowledge and Education, and the Saudi Heritage Preservation Society, the workshop was attended by pupils from four different Saudi universities. The students were taught basic principles of geometry, biomorphic design, and architectural design before collaborating on the design and decoration of two mihrabs.

The successful workshop enabled young Saudi designers to engage with their cultural heritage and generate interest towards the continuity and renewal of traditional arts and crafts skills.
