Jethro Buck to Exhibit at START, Saatchi Gallery, 10 to 13 September

The painter, Jethro Buck, will present new work in a solo booth at the START Art Fair at Saatchi Gallery from 10th to 13th September 2015.

Following his winning of the 2014 Ciclitira Prize and his sell-out graduation show at The Prince's School of Traditional Arts last summer, Buck will present new work that combines a thorough knowledge of Indian miniature painting with a contemporary sensibility. Aside from miniature painting, other influences include 17th century tantric art from Rajasthan, the tree art of the Gond people, Samuel Palmer, as well as great modern colourists such as Matisse and Richard Diebenkorn.

In Buck's words, the new works "broach the mystical yet perplexing concept of creation and the associated stories and mythologies that are inspired by it."

Buck's work draws on important elements of the teaching found at The Prince's School where the artist completed an MA in Traditional Arts in 2014. The School's practical teaching allowed him to develop his interests in Indian miniature painting and to gain a greater understanding of the philosophy inherent within traditional arts of the world.

Sir David Green KCMG, an early collector of Buck writes that the artist "epitomizes what we are seeking to achieve at The Prince's School of Traditional Arts – to preserve traditional arts for posterity but keep them alive by giving them contemporary expression."
