Exhibition: Sacred Art of the Silk Road, Dunhuang’s Buddhist Cave Temples

Dunhuang is an oasis of ten thousand patterns on the edge of the Gobi Desert. A strategic and trading point on the Silk Road network, it was a vibrant hub of intellectual, artistic and religious exchange. Here, generations of pilgrims created extraordinary Buddhist cave temples, painted in brilliant mineral colours. Today, this UNESCO world-heritage site attracts worshippers, world scholars and millions of tourists.

Sacred Art of the Silk Road, Dunhuang’s Buddhist Cave Temples is a special exhibition featuring just some of the wondrous arts found in Dunhuang. The exhibition features replica paintings and sculptures from the Mogao and Yulin caves in the Dunhuang region. An exact, hand-painted replica of Mogao Cave 3 will be the centre-piece, giving visitors a rare opportunity to experience its beauty.
