Dumfries House artists’ residency

The Dumfries House Royal Drawing School artists’ residency opens up to Scottish artists

The Royal Drawing School at Dumfries House is expanding its application pool from just Royal Drawing School alumni to include Scottish artists who use drawing in their practice.

The Dumfries House residency will include ten, two week long residencies between January – May 2019 and is open to Scottish Artists, artists who are an alumni of a Scottish Art School or who are a practising artist currently living and working in Scotland. It will be a productive and creative period for artists to work in a tranquil environment, whilst enjoying Dumfries House, its ground and the surrounding countryside.

A unique opportunity for painters, textile and furniture designers, illustrators, practice-based researchers and applied artists who use drawing in their practice – the emphasis is on working from observation and the development of new work.

This will be a funded residency that offers each artist with a private studio, shared self-catering accommodation and daily lunch. Breakfast, dinner, travel to and from Dumfries House and materials are at the artists own cost.

Applications are now open for the Dumfries House Scottish Artist Residency session between January – May 2019. The application deadline is 5pm Sunday 21st October 2018. Artists will be selected at the end of October by a jury of distinguished artists and curators, artists will be notified at the start of November if their application has been successful.
