The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide wins at The Urban Developer Awards 2018
Continued industry recognition for the Australian sustainable development
Developed in collaboration with Defence Housing Australia, Renewal SA and The Prince’s Foundation, The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide has added to its impressive collection of awards, winning the Excellence in Sustainability Award at The Urban Developer Award 2018.
Located in the revitalised urban precinct of Bowden in South Australia, the building project saw 12 high-quality homes built on a former industrial site, using contextual design practices to maintain local build and character, with the overarching philosophy of blending rich, local heritage with contemporary living.
Locally-sourced low-carbon building materials were used, such as locally-made concrete, granite and bricks re-used from the old Bowden industrial buildings. The timber used is also from certified sustainable sources. The result is that these houses use 50 per cent less energy and 50 per cent less potable water than a typical urban townhouse. This results in a 40% carbon footprint reduction when compared to a standard house. In addition, 95 per cent of waste generated in the build has been recycled. These homes now house 12 Australian Defence Force families.
Since its completion, the build has received numerous awards, including being rated the first 6 Star residential Multi-Unit Residential ‘Design’ and ‘As Built’ project in Australia by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). This project helps to demonstrate the benefit and importance of sustainable and well-located living, acting as the benchmark for residential development in Australia.
