Barley Court Textiles Studios

At Barley Court textiles studios, we aim to offer a range of high-quality courses that elevate the value of making, support the fashion and textiles industries, celebrate traditional craft skills and are sustainably-minded.

Barley Court brings together designers and makers in a welcoming studio space to provide access to textiles training and workshops for learners of all levels and abilities. Provision is inclusive and accessible to all. We aim to create a space that values both people and planet, encourages collaboration and helps each of our makers to flourish in their artisanal endeavours.

Our fee-paying, public and community programmes can be found on Eventbrite at tinyurl.com/HighgroveCrafts

Public programme of workshops

The Barley Court public programme of workshops delivers an engaging and dynamic programme of courses to members of the public. These workshops range from just a few hours to five-day courses and are accessible for beginner to intermediate-level learners. Our courses and classes focus on projects that introduce skills and techniques as well as highlighting traditional crafts such as millinery, weaving and lacemaking.

Advanced skills programme

The Barley Court advanced skills programme aims to deliver advanced level workshops and residential courses for those who wish to build on their existing creative practice. Working in collaboration with the fashion industry, we aim to empower new and existing makers to refine their craft and develop new skills. We develop and formulate new partnerships and encourage expert practitioners to engage with us to develop workshops and courses that can run over slightly longer periods of time.

Community

A combination of practical workshops, thoughtful conversation and a series of making and sharing workshop-style events aims to enable practitioners to work collaboratively and inspire each other on their creative journeys. The Barley Court studios will cater for new and existing makers who wish to share experiences and develop their creative practice.

Outreach

We will extend the reach of the overall programmes at Barley Court to those who might not otherwise be able to access training opportunities and we are working collaboratively with other organisations in order to achieve these outcomes.

We also offer concessions and subsidise places to enable learners to attend workshops on site and can help with accommodation and travel if required.
