Born in 1963, David graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic with a degree in Economics in 1986 and began his career with Thames Valley Police In 1989 he moved into recruitment and in 1996 he co-founded his own recruitment consultancy, Huntswood. In 1999 the business expanded its services and now trades as a business process outsourcer, specialising in the provision of resource-based solutions to address governance, risk management and compliance requirements primarily in the UK financial services sector.
In autumn 2005 David was named the national ‘Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year’ in the Ernst & Young / Sunday Times / Coutts Awards. In November 2007, David was named ‘Best Chief Executive’ at the Industry Awards' Ceremony which recognises outstanding service to compliance and regulation.
Having run Huntswood since 1996 David stood down as its CEO in November 2011 and became Deputy Chairman. Today his other business interests include running his own investment and trading group, Havisham. In 2013 this acquired the majority of Astbury Marsden, a London based recruitment consultancy with offices in Singapore. Additionally, he is an investor in JSCsport - a sports media relations and sponsorship company.
As well as being a Trustee of PFBC, His Royal Highness has made David a Trustee at Dumfries House in Scotland. As well as working on the Trust, David is overseeing the development of 600 new homes next to the Dumfries House Estate at Knockroon and thanks to David's personal donation the Trust is restoring the estate's four and a half acre walled garden.
David is a Patron of both The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and of the NSPCC 'FULL STOP' Campaign. He is also a keen supporter of The National Osteoporosis Society. He also has his own charity- 'The David Brownlow Charitable Foundation'.
